HUBUNGAN TIPE KEPRIBADIAN DENGAN PERILAKU AGRESIF PADA REMAJA YANG BERMAIN GAME ONLINE DI SMP NEGERI 5 INDRALAYA UTARA

The rapid advancement of digital technology has led to an increased prevalence of online gaming among adolescents, particularly junior high school students. Exposure to online games, especially those containing competitive and violent elements, may contribute to the emergence of aggressive behavior among adolescents. However, not all adolescents exhibit similar behavioral responses, suggesting that personality traits may play a significant role in influencing aggressive behavior. This study aimes to examine the relationship between personality traits and aggressive behavior among adolescents who play online games at SMP Negeri 5 Indralaya Utara. This research employed a quantitative correlational design with a cross-sectional approach. The study population comprised all students at SMP Negeri 5 Indralaya Utara who engaged in online gaming. Using a total sampling technique, 158 respondents were included in the study. Personality traits were measured using the Big Five Inventory-2 (BFI-2), while aggressive behavior was assessed using the Buss-Perry Aggression Questionnaire (BPAQ). Data were analyzed using Spearman’s rank correlation test. The findings revealed statistically significant correlations between personality traits and aggressive behavior, specifically Open-Mindedness (p-value = 0,000), Conscientiousness (p-value = 0,004), Extraversion (p-value = 0,016), Agreeableness (p-value = 0,029), and Negative Emotionality (p-value = 0,000). These results indicate that personality traits play a significant role in influencing aggressive behavior among adolescents who engage in online gaming. The study highlights the importance of understanding adolescents’ personality profiles in the prevention and management of aggressive behavior, particularly within the school setting.
