EVALUASI PERTUMBUHAN PRODUKSI DAN SEGREGASI AKSESI JAGUNG POPCORN UNGU HASIL PERSILANGAN JAGUNG POPCORN VARIETAS “ORANGE UNGGULAN” DAN JAGUNG UNGU UNSRI
The objective of this study was to observe the growth and production yield of superior orange popcorn corn varieties, as well as to obtain F3 generation seeds from the cross between these two plants. This research was conducted in Indralaya District, Ogan Ilir Regency from July to October 2025. The research began with cross breeding purple popcorn corn of the F2 generation as the male parent, using a randomized block design (RBD) with each variety planted in blocks and interspersed with the superior orange popcorn variety. The results of the study showed that the F2 generation plants could grow and produce popcorn corn and produced purple F3 generation seeds for further research. In terms of plant height, cob position, cob diameter, and cob length, the results showed significant differences, but there were no significant differences in male and female flowering age. Production parameters showed significant differences in cob weight with and without husks, dry kernel weight, and 100-kernel weight, where the UJ3UxOU (F2) accession showed higher results, while OU showed superior results in the number of dry kernels. Analysis of segregation in this study showed the emergence of purple and yellow seeds, with the segregation rate for yellow dominance reaching 69% 84%. Heritability in production traits showed high results, indicating strong potential for inheritance in subsequent generations. The results of a study of 30 plants showed that there were 8,020 purple seeds from the UJ3UxOU (F2) accession that could be used for further research.
