CARBON STOCK ANALYSIS IN MANGROVE Rhizophora apiculata AT SMART SUNGSANG MYISKAH ANDINIE 08041282126068 ABSTRACT Mangrove ecosystems play an important role in maintaining the balance of coastal environments. They are particularly important as carbon storage sites and carbon dioxide absorbers. Rhizophora apiculata, one type of mangrove, has a high capacity for storing biomass and carbon. This study aims to analyze the biomass, carbon stock, and carbon dioxide absorption of Rhizophora apiculata mangrove vegetation based on differences in stand age. The research was conducted in 1.5- and 2.5-year-old mangrove areas using the tree-level stem diameter measurement method. Biomass was estimated using allometric equations non destructive. The results indicate that 2.5-year-old mangrove vegetation has higher values of diameter, biomass, and carbon stock. The CO2 uptake was higher compared to that of 1.5-year-old mangrove vegetation. This increase suggests that stand age significantly affects biomass accumulation and the mangrove's ability to absorb carbon dioxide. In addition to stand age, environmental conditions such as pH and water salinity support the growth of mangrove vegetation at the study site. Therefore, the Rhizophora apiculata mangrove ecosystem has great potential as a blue carbon sink and plays an important role in mitigating climate change, particularly in coastal areas. Ekosistem ini sangat penting sebagai tempat penyimpanan karbon dan penyerap karbon dioksida. Rhizophora apiculata, salah satu jenis mangrove, memiliki kapasitas penyimpanan biomassa dan karbon yang tinggi. Studi ini bertujuan untuk menganalisis biomassa, stok karbon, dan penyerapan karbon dioksida vegetasi mangrove Rhizophora apiculata berdasarkan perbedaan umur tegakan. Penelitian dilakukan di area mangrove berumur 1,5 dan 2,5 tahun menggunakan metode pengukuran diameter batang pohon. Biomassa diestimasi menggunakan persamaan alometrik non-destruktif. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa vegetasi mangrove berumur 2,5 tahun memiliki nilai diameter, biomassa, dan stok karbon yang lebih tinggi. Penyerapan CO₂ lebih tinggi dibandingkan dengan vegetasi mangrove berumur 1,5 tahun. Peningkatan ini menunjukkan bahwa umur tegakan secara signifikan memengaruhi akumulasi biomassa dan kemampuan mangrove untuk menyerap karbon dioksida. Selain umur tegakan, kondisi lingkungan seperti pH dan salinitas air mendukung pertumbuhan vegetasi mangrove di lokasi penelitian. Oleh karena itu, ekosistem mangrove Rhizophora apiculata memiliki potensi besar sebagai penyerap karbon biru dan memainkan peran penting dalam mitigasi perubahan iklim, khususnya di daerah pesisir.
