ESTIMASI BIOMASSA DAN STOK KARBON PADA MANGROVE Rhizophora mucronata DI SMART SUNGSANG

Mangrove ecosystems play a crucial role in climate change mitigation due to their ability to absorb and store carbon in the form of biomass. One mangrove species with a high carbon storage potential is Rhizophora mucronata. This study aimed to estimate aboveground biomass, carbon stock, and carbon dioxide (CO₂) sequestration of Rhizophora mucronata based on differences in stand age at the Sungsang Mangrove Restoration and Ecotourism (SMART) area, Sungsang IV AA3, Banyuasin Regency, South Sumatra. The literature review was based on the blue carbon concept, mangrove ecology, and the application of non-destructive allometric methods for biomass and carbon estimation. This research employed a survey method using purposive sampling. Data were collected from ten plots measuring 20m × 20m, divided into two age categories: 2,5 years and 1,3 years. Tree diameter was measured at a height of 30–50 cm above ground level and analyzed using species-specific allometric equations. The results showed that Rhizophora mucronata stands aged 2,5 years had higher aboveground biomass, carbon stock, and CO₂ sequestration compared to stands aged 1,3 years. These findings indicate that increasing stand age is positively correlated with greater carbon storage capacity. This study concludes that Rhizophora mucronata has significant potential as a carbon sink and supports sustainable mangrove management strategies for climate change mitigation. Salah satu spesies mangrove yang berkontribusi besar terhadap penyimpanan karbon adalah Rhizophora mucronata. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengestimasi biomassa atas permukaan tanah, stok karbon, serta serapan karbon dioksida (CO₂) pada Rhizophora mucronata berdasarkan perbedaan umur tegakan di kawasan Sungsang Mangrove Restoration and Ecotourism (SMART), Desa Sungsang IV AA3, Kabupaten Banyuasin, Sumatera Selatan. Tinjauan pustaka penelitian ini mengacu pada konsep blue carbon, ekologi mangrove, serta penggunaan metode allometrik non-destruktif dalam estimasi biomassa dan karbon. Metode penelitian yang digunakan adalah metode survei dengan teknik purposive sampling. Pengambilan data dilakukan pada 10 plot berukuran 20m × 20m yang terbagi ke dalam dua kelompok umur, yaitu 2,5 tahun dan 1,3 tahun. Data diameter batang diukur pada ketinggian 30–50 cm dari permukaan tanah dan dianalisis menggunakan persamaan allometrik. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa kelompok umur 2,5 tahun memiliki nilai biomassa, stok karbon, dan serapan CO₂ yang lebih tinggi dibandingkan kelompok umur 1,3 tahun. Hal ini menunjukkan bahwa peningkatan umur tegakan berbanding lurus dengan kapasitas penyimpanan karbon. Penelitian ini menyimpulkan bahwa Rhizophora mucronata berpotensi besar sebagai penyerap karbon dan mendukung pengelolaan mangrove berkelanjutan berbasis mitigasi perubahan iklim.
