ANALISIS MINAT MAHASISWA PADA MATA KULIAH PENGELASAN DI TINJAUAN DARI GENDER DI PROGRAM STUDI PENDIDIKAN TEKNIK MESIN

This study aims to analyze students' interest in welding courses from a gender perspective. The study used a mixed methods approach involving 60 respondents, consisting of 30 male and 30 female students. Data collection techniques were conducted through questionnaires and interviews. Data analysis used descriptive statistics, the Mann–Whitney U test, and qualitative analysis to strengthen the interpretation of quantitative findings. The results showed a significant difference in interest in learning welding between male and female students (Asymp. Sig. = 0.003). A total of 86.67% of male students showed a high level of interest and 13.33% had a low interest. Conversely, 66.67% of female students showed a low interest and only 33.33% had a high interest in welding practices. The low interest of female students was influenced by intrinsic factors, such as feeling unfamiliar with the workshop environment, internalization of masculine stereotypes, and anxiety about physical risks. In addition, extrinsic factors also contributed, including family support that tends to be protective, marginalization from peers, and facilities and learning processes that are more oriented towards male students. These findings indicate that gender is a factor that significantly differentiates students' learning interests in welding courses.
