This study aims to analyze the implementation of management functions in improving sports performance at the Youth and Sports Office of South Sumatra Province. This research employs a qualitative approach with a descriptive method. Data were collected through in-depth interviews with key informants consisting of structural officials, staff of the sports performance improvement division, coaches, and athletes under the supervision of the Youth and Sports Office of South Sumatra, supported by documentation studies. Data analysis was conducted using source triangulation to ensure the validity and consistency of the findings. The results indicate that the implementation of management functions, namely planning, organizing, actuating, and controlling, has been carried out by the Youth and Sports Office of South Sumatra, but has not yet been fully optimal. In terms of planning, the development programs have referred to national policies and previous evaluations, although they are constrained by limited budgets. Organizing has been supported by a clear organizational structure; however, coordination among divisions and limited human resources remain challenges. The implementation of athlete development programs has been conducted through training activities and participation in competitions, yet support in terms of facilities, medical assistance, and sustainability of athlete development needs improvement. Monitoring and evaluation have been conducted through activity reports and evaluations, but they are not yet systematic and continuous. Therefore, strengthening management practices is necessary to improve sports performance development in South Sumatra.
