PENGARUH VARIASI KONSENTRASI ASAM SULFAT DAN BERAT PEREKAT BONGGOL PISANG TERHADAP KUALITAS BIOBRIKET KULIT KACANG TANAH (Arachis hypogaea L.)

The increasing demand for energy, which is not proportional to the availability of fossil fuels, has encouraged the development of renewable and environmentally friendly alternative energy sources, one of which is the utilization of biomass waste into biobriquettes. Peanut shell waste (Arachis hypogaea L.) has potential as a raw material due to its high cellulose content; however, the quality of the biobriquettes is influenced by the activation process and binder composition. The peanut shells were carbonized at 350°C for 60 minutes and subsequently activated using H2SO4 at concentrations of 1, 1,5, and 2 M for 24 hours. The resulting charcoal was mixed with banana corm binder at variations of 30, 40, and 50 grams, then molded and dried at 105°C for 3 hours. The tests conducted included moisture content, ash content, volatile matter, fixed carbon, calorific value, drop test, and density. The best result was obtained with 1 M H2SO4, yielding a moisture content of 8.09%, ash content of 4.48%, volatile matter of 13.43%, fixed carbon of 73.48%, calorific value of 4,944 cal/grams, drop test of 6.87%, and density of 0.60 g/cm³. The optimum binder composition was 30 grams, producing a moisture content of 6.98%, ash content of 3.91%, volatile matter of 13.14%, fixed carbon of 75.94%, drop test of 7.12%, and calorific value of 4,951 cal/grams. The parameters of moisture content, ash content, and volatile matter met the SNI 01-6235-2000 standard; however, the calorific value and fixed carbon did not meet the SNI standard, while the drop test and density analysis did not comply with ASTM D440-86 R02.
