KELAS KESESUAIAN LAHAN UNTUK TANAMAN EUKALIPTUS (Eucalyptus pellita.) PADA LAHAN SULFAT MASAM DI KECAMATAN AIR SUGIHAN OKI
M.YUSUP. Land Suitability Class For Eukaliptus (Eucalyptus pellita.) Plants On Acid Sulfate Land In Air Sugihan Oki District. (Supervised by Adipati Napoleon). Acid sulfate soils are classified as marginal lands characterized by very low soil pH and high aluminum saturation. These conditions are commonly found in Air Sugihan Subdistrict, Ogan Komering Ilir Regency, South Sumatra. This study aimed to evaluate the land suitability of acid sulfate soils for Eucalyptus pellita growth and to identify the main limiting factors affecting land suitability. The study was conducted using field surveys and laboratory analyses of soil physical and chemical properties, including soil pH, aluminum saturation, base saturation, organic carbon content, N, P, and K availability, soil texture, and slope. Land suitability was determined using a matching method by comparing land characteristics with the growth requirements of Eucalyptus pellita. The results showed that the actual land suitability ranged from S2 (moderately suitable) with a land area of 25,67 hectares and S3 (marginally suitable) with a land area of 65,02 hectares, with very acidic soil pH and high aluminum saturation as the main limiting factors. Additional limitations at certain locations included fine soil texture and low base saturation. However, high organic carbon and nitrogen contents were identified as supporting factors. With proper land management practices, acid sulfate soils have the potential to be sustainably utilized for Eukaliptus pellita cultivation.
