EFEKTIVITAS ABU BOILER SEBAGAI SUBSTITUSI PARSIAL PUPUK NPK-MG DALAM PRE-NURSERY KELAPA SAWIT (ELAEIS GUINEENSIS JACQ.)

Hutahaean, Christian Teofilus - Personal Name;

The low productivity of smallholder oil palm plantations and the suboptimal use of agro-inputs are major challenges in Indonesia. Excessive use of synthetic fertilizers can lead to chemical residue accumulation and increased production costs. This study aimed to analyze the effectiveness of boiler ash as a partial substitute for NPK fertilizer in enhancing the growth of oil palm (Elaeis guineensis Jacq.) seedlings of the Damimas variety (Dura x Pisifera) during the pre-nursery stage. The research was conducted from August to November 2025 at the oil palm plantation of PT Kenawan Agro Sejahtera, Burai Village, Ogan Ilir, South Sumatra. Chemical analysis was performed at the Soil and Plant Physiology Laboratories, Universitas Sriwijaya. The study used a Factorial Completely Randomized Design (CRD) with two factors: boiler ash dosage (15, 30, and 45 g/plant) and NPK-Mg 15-15-6-4 fertilizer dosage (0, 1.25, and 2.5 g/plant/week). Data were analyzed using Analysis of Variance (ANOVA), followed by Duncan’s Multiple Range Test (DMRT) if significant differences were found. The results showed that plant height increased consistently across all treatments, with the highest growth observed in the A3B3 treatment (45 g boiler ash + 2.5 g NPK). Boiler ash, being alkaline and rich in K, Ca, and Mg, improved soil pH and fertility, while NPK provided essential macro-nutrients for vegetative growth. Overall, the combination of boiler ash and NPK-Mg fertilizer effectively supports the early growth of oil palm seedlings and offers a sustainable alternative to reduce reliance on inorganic fertilizers.
