HUBUNGAN ANTARA TINGKAT PENGETAHUAN ORANGTUA MENGENAI 1000 HARI PERTAMA KEHIDUPAN (HPK) DENGAN KARIES GIGI ANAK

Background: The first thousand days of life is a period from the beginning of pregnancy until two years of age. Dental caries is a microbiological disease of the hard dental tissues caused by the interaction of bacteria that produce acids through carbohydrate fermentation, resulting in demineralization of inorganic substances and destruction of the organic structure of the teeth. Objective: This study aim to determine the relationship between parents’ level of knowledge regarding the first thousand days of life and dental caries in children at TK Islam Az-Zahra Palembang City. Methods: This study was an analytic observational study with a cross sectional design involving 69 subjects selected using purposive sampling technique. Children’s dental caries were examined using the def-t index scoring system, while parents’ level of knowledge regarding the first thousand days of life was measured using a questionnaire. Data were analyzed using univariate and bivariate analyses using chi-square in SPSS software. Results: There is a significant relationship between parents’ level of knowledge regarding the first thousand days of life and dental caries in children, with a p-value of 0.000 (p≤0.05). Conclusion: Parents’ level of knowledge regarding the first thousand days of life may influence dental caries in children.
