DETERMINAN PEMANFAATAN LAYANAN TELEMEDICINE DI DAERAH PERKOTAAN DAN PEDESAAN DI INDONESIA

Aqilah, Raiisa - Personal Name;

The use of telemedicine services is an important strategy in supporting healthcare system transformation and improving access to healthcare services, especially amid limited geographical access and resources. However, the level of telemedicine utilization still varies between regions and community groups. This study aims to analyze the determinants of telemedicine service utilization and compare patterns in urban and rural areas in Indonesia. Cross-sectional data from the 2023 Indonesian Health Survey (SKI). Data analysis included univariate and bivariate analyses using Prevalence Ratio (PR) and 95% Confidence Interval (CI), as well as multivariate analysis using logistic regression. Of all respondents analyzed, the use of telemedicine nationwide remains low, at around 2.2%, with a higher (3.1%) than in rural areas (0.9%). Bivariate analysis showed significantly higher utilization among respondents of productive age, women, those with higher education, employed status, higher economic level, health insurance ownership, easier access to health facilities, and chronic diseases. Education was the most dominant determinant in both regions. In urban areas, respondents with higher education were more likely to use telemedicine (AOR = 6.209; 95% CI: 5.235 7.363), while in rural areas the association was stronger, with nearly eightfold higher odds (AOR = 7.863; 95% CI: 6.145–10.061).The use of telemedicine services in Indonesia still shows a gap between urban and rural areas, with education level being the most dominant determinant in both areas. The stronger influence of education in rural areas indicates the importance of improving health digital literacy as a key strategy to encourage the use of telemedicine, especially in rural areas.
