FAKTOR YANG MEMPENGARUHI KEGAGALAN PEMBUATAN PRODUK PADA PRAKTIK LAS BUSUR (SMAW) DI PENDIDIKAN TEKNIK MESIN UNSRI
This study aimed to identify the factors influencing product manufacturing failures in Shielded Metal Arc Welding (SMAW) practice at the Mechanical Engineering Education Study Program, Universitas Sriwijaya. This research employed a quantitative descriptive method with 46 students selected using proportional random sampling. Data were collected through questionnaires and documentation and analyzed using percentage techniques. The results showed that the dominant factors causing welding product failures were human, method, and material factors. Material factors were dominant in porosity and crack defects. Human factors were dominant in undercut, overlap, slag inclusion, lack of fusion, and burn-through defects. Method factors were dominant in lack of penetration and distortion defects, while machine factors were dominant in spatter defects. The findings indicate that inadequate welding skills, improper amperage settings, poor material conditions, inappropriate welding techniques, and suboptimal equipment use are the main causes of product failures in SMAW welding practice.
