DAYA ANTIBAKTERI EKSTRAK BIJI KOPI ROBUSTA (Coffea canephora) OKU SELATAN TERHADAP PERTUMBUHAN BAKTERI Streptococcus mutans
Background: Streptococcus mutans is a Gram-positive bacterium that plays an important role in the formation of dental caries through its ability to form biofilms and produce organic acids. Various materials are used in dental caries treatment because they possess antibacterial effects. Robusta coffee bean extract (Coffea canephora) is known to contain bioactive compounds such as flavonoids, chlorogenic acid, caffeic acid, trigonelline, and caffeine which have potential antibacterial properties. Objective: To determine the antibacterial activity of Robusta coffee bean extract from South OKU against Streptococcus mutans at concentrations of 25%, 50%, and 75%. Methods: This study was an in vitro laboratory experimental study using a post-test only with control group design. The research sample used Streptococcus mutans ATCC 25175 treated with Robusta coffee bean extract at concentrations of 25%, 50%, and 75%, as well as 2% chlorhexidine as the positive control. Antibacterial testing was carried out using the disc diffusion method on Mueller Hinton Agar media and incubated for 24 hours at 37°C. Results: The mean inhibition zone diameters at concentrations of 25%, 50%, and 75% were 8.31 mm, 10.76 mm, and 11.32 mm, respectively, while 2% chlorhexidine showed a mean inhibition zone diameter of 23.5 mm.
