ASSOCIATION BETWEEN SERUM VITAMIN D LEVELS AND SEPSIS SEVERITY IN THE INTENSIVE CARE UNIT OF MOHAMMAD HOESIN HOSPITAL, PALEMBANG

Legowo, Cendy - Personal Name;

Background: An excessive inflammatory response and dysregulation of the immune system in severe sepsis may progress to septic shock and increase mortality. Vitamin D plays an important role in immune modulation. This study aimed to analyze the association between vitamin D levels and sepsis severity and to determine the cut-off point of vitamin D associated with the risk of septic shock in ICU patients at Mohammad Hoesin General Hospital Palembang. Methods: An analytical observational study with a cross-sectional design was conducted in the ICU of Mohammad Hoesin General Hospital Palembang. A total of 54 patients were enrolled and categorized into two groups based on severity: sepsis and septic shock. Statistical analyses included comparison tests of vitamin D levels between groups, receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curve analysis to determine the optimal cut-off point, and Chi-square/Fisher’s Exact tests followed by multivariate logistic regression to identify independent risk factors for septic shock. Results: The SOFA score was significantly higher in the septic shock group compared to the sepsis group (median 10 vs. 5; p0.05). ROC analysis identified a vitamin D cut-off value of 7.95 ng/mL (OR 5.4; p=0.041) and a SOFA score ≥7 (OR 13.3; p
