ANALISIS PENGARUH DIMENSI PENDIDIKAN TERHADAP KETIMPANGAN PENDAPATAN ANTARPROVINSI DI SUMATERA MENGGUNAKAN REGRESI DATA PANEL

Winanda, Alya - Personal Name;

Income inequality reflects the unequal distribution of income across regions. Income inequality in Sumatra during the period 2015 to 2024 shows a fluctuating pattern with varying levels of inequality among provinces. Education, as one of the component of human development, is assumed to play a role in influencing income inequality. This study aims to determine the best panel data regression model and to identify the educational dimension variables that significantly affect income inequality in Sumatra. The data used in this study were secondary data obtained from Statistics Indonesia, covering 10 provinces in Sumatra during the period 2015 to 2024. The variables examined include the Gini index as the dependent variable, while Mean Years of Schooling (MYS), Expected Years of Schooling (EYS), school Participation Rate for the age group 16 to 18 years, School Participation Rate for the age group 12 to 15 years, and Literacy Rate were used as independent variables. The analytical method employed is panel data regression using the Common Effect Model (CEM), Fixed Effect Model (FEM), and Random Effect Model (REM) approaches. The selection of the best model is conducted through the Chow test and the Hausman test. The results indicate that the best model is the Fixed Effect Model (FEM) with individual effects. The Mean Years of Schooling variable has a negative and significant effect on income inequality, while the other variables do not have a significant effect. The coefficient of determination of 0.8857 indicates that the model explains 88.57% of the variation in income inequality among provinces in Sumatra. Therefore, an increase in Mean Years of Schooling contributes to reducing the level of interprovincial income inequality in Sumatra. Keyword : income disparity, education, panel data regression, fixed effect model, Sumatra
