REPRESENTASI BUDAYA PATRIARKI KELUARGA DALAM FLIM NGERI-NGERI SEDAP (Analisis Semiotika Ferdinand De Saussure)

This study analyzes the representation of patriarchal culture in families as depicted in the film Ngeri-Ngeri Sedap using Ferdinand de Saussure’s semiotic approach. The film portrays the conflicts within a Batak family, deeply rooted in traditional values and the dominant influence of patriarchy. Saussure’s semiotic approach is employed to uncover how signs (signifiers), such as dialogues, gestures, and cultural symbols, convey deeper meanings (signified) regarding male dominance, gender role inequality, and familial expectations within a patriarchal structure. The findings reveal that the film not only reflects the strength of patriarchal traditions but also critiques its impacts, including psychological pressure, intergenerational conflict, and individual struggles for freedom and self-identity. This study offers a comprehensive understanding of how patriarchal culture is represented in popular media and its effects on family dynamics.
