ANALISIS PARAMETER PROKSIMAT BATUBARA CAMPURAN TERHADAP KUALITAS BATUBARA MT-47 SEBAGAI ACUAN KELAYAKAN UNTUK PLTU

Frasetyo, Istiqlal Eka - Personal Name;

South Sumatra coal has great potential as a fuel for coal-fired power plants (PLTU), but its quality variations require quality control efforts to meet operational specifications, one of which is through the coal blending process. This study aims to analyze the effect of variations in coal blending ratios on proximate parameters and to evaluate their suitability with the characteristics of MT-47 coal. The research was conducted experimentally in the laboratory with sample preparation without initial drying on an air-dried basis (adb). The coal was prepared by using a crusher to reduce its size, ground with a ball mill, and sieved in stages to separate size fractions. From the sieving results, the 75mesh size fraction was selected as the working fraction for the blending process, with a fraction distribution of 52.34% for Coal A and 52% for Coal B. The prepared samples were mixed in four variations of the A:B ratio, namely 30:70, 40:60, 50:50, and 60:40. Each mixture was analyzed through proximate testing to determine the inherent moisture (IM), ash content (ASH), volatile matter (VM), and fixed carbon (FC) according to ASTM standards. The results of the proximate test showed that the IM values ranged from 24.78–27.93%, far below the MT-47 standard (12-15%). ASH values were in the range of 4.52–5.79% adb, with the ratios of 30:70 and 40:60 still meeting the maximum limit of the MT-47 specification ( 0.95 and R² > 95%. Overall, there is no mixing ratio that meets all the quality parameters of MT-47, so a further quality improvement process is required before the mixture can be optimally used as power plant fuel.
