GERAKAN PROTES BERMOTIF BENDERA ONE PIECE DI NEGARA-NEGARA ASIA PADA TAHUN 2025

Aini, Fauzia Latifah - Personal Name;

The use of popular culture symbols in protest actions has become a significant phenomenon in contemporary social movements. This study examines how protest actions employing the One Piece flag symbol across five Asian countries in 2025 can be understood through the perspective of dialogic cosmopolitanism. Distinct local sosial fractures in each nation namely, various protests in Indonesia, the anti corruption movement in Nepal, the anti corruption protests regarding the flood project scandal in the Philppines, the protests against the purchase of luxury vehicles by parliament members in Timor-Leste, and Gaza solidarity demonstrations in Malaysia converged through a single shared symbol. This study adopts a qualitative descriptive approach using a comparative case study method, with data gathered through in-depth interviews with five activists across the respective countries and supplemented by document analysis. The analytical framework is drawn from Oscar García Agustín's dialogic cosmopolitanism, structured around three main pillars: the conflictual dimension, translocal solidarities, and translatability. The findings indicate that the One Piece symbol arose from diverse social ruptures, yet each movement found recognition of its own struggle within similar movements elsewhere. Translocal solidarity emerged spontaneously through social media without centralized coordination or formal institutional support. The symbol underwent heterolingual translation across each local context, generating a multiplicity of meanings freedom, anti-corruption, rebellion, loyalty, and resistance against ruling eliteswithin a shared common ground. Underlying all of these findings is the power of dialogic imagination: geographically dispersed movements unite through the capacity to imaginatively inhabit the struggles of others within their own, demonstrating that the anime One Piece functions as a cosmopolitan medium that articulates the collective aspirations of younger generations across national borders from below. Keywords: Social Movements, Dialogic Imagination, Dialogic Cosmopolitanism, One Piece, Asia Protest 2025, Translocal Solidarity, Translatability
