UPAYA ASEAN MENDORONG PENGGUNAAN LOCAL CURRENCY DALAM MENCAPAI INTEGRASI EKONOMI REGIONAL

This research aims to examine the efforts made by ASEAN in promoting the use of local currencies as a strategic instrument to strengthen regional economic integration. This study analyzes the development of policy measures and cooperation that continue to be undertaken to enable economic transactions between member countries to be conducted in their respective local currencies, in order to reduce dependence on external currencies and mitigate the impact of global volatility. Thus, the use of local currency is positioned as a mechanism to strengthen monetary sovereignty while also serving as a pathway to deepen ASEAN economic integration. The method used in this research is qualitative analysis, which allows for the examinations of issues with available data in the form of descriptions of the developments of those issues. Furthermore, the data used in this research is obtained from internet sources, especially thru the official ASEAN website and the central banks of ASEAN countries, supplemented by articles from media websites. Then, to analyze the data, this research uses the spillover dimension of neo-functionalism, which provides three sections to examine the efforts made by ASEAN in promoting the use of local currency to achieve regional economic integration. This research ultimately concludes that by using three methods to generate spillover in the use of local currency, which consist of sectoral expansion, encouraging institutionalization, and policy coodination.
