PERKEMBANGAN KEHIDUPAN SOSIAL EKONOMI MASYARAKAT PELAKU USAHA KEMPLANG DI DESA PEDAMARAN TAHUN 2011-2023

This research is a historical, social, and economic study that aims to analyze the development of the kemplang business as well as the social and economic life of kemplang business actors in Pedamaran Village, Ogan Komering Ilir Regency, from 2011 to 2023. The research focused on the development of kemplang as a community-based business, changes in the social life of business makers, and the economic dynamics experience by the community during the study period. This research employed the historical research method - consisting of heuristics, source criticism, interpretation, and historiography. Data were collected through literature studies, field observations, and interviews with kemplang makers and local community leaders. The findings indicated that kemplang business in Pedamaran Village has experienced considerable development in terms of the number of business makers and production levels, although it remained largely traditional in nature. The availability of river fish as raw material and inherited skills became the key factors in supporting the continuity of the business. Socially, kemplang business strengthened social relations, encouraged cooperation among community members, and involved family participation - particularly women, in the production process. Economically, kemplang business contributed to household income, although earnings were varied among business makers and it fluctuated significantly during the Covid-19 pandemic. Overall, kemplang business served not only as a source of income but also as an integral part of the social life and cultural identity of the Pedamaran community.
