PERILAKU SOSIAL SISWA SEKOLAH DASAR YANG BERMAIN GAME ONLINE

Rinanda, Nira - Personal Name;

The increasing use of online games among elementary school students has the potential to influence their social behavior. This condition gives rise to various social behavioral issues, such as the emergence of aggressive attitudes when emotions are not well controlled and a decrease in direct interaction with others. This study aims to explore the social behavior of elementary school students who play online games. This study applied a qualitative method with a phenomenological approach. The samples were selected using purposive sampling and snowball sampling techniques. The participants consisted of three students, three parents, and two teachers. Data collection techniques included interviews using a voice recorder and interview guidelines, observations using observation sheets, and documentation. Data analysis was conducted through data reduction using Atlas.ti software, data presentation in narrative form, and conclusion drawing. The results revealed seven emerging themes, the formation of online gaming community networks, empathy and social concern, physical and verbal aggressiveness, students’ cooperative behavior, differences in attitudes toward peers, parents, and teachers, as well as the negative and positive impacts of online gaming. These findings indicate that playing online games influences students’ social interactions by expanding online communication and collaboration while reducing direct interaction at home. Students continue to demonstrate empathy, social concern, and respect, although occasional aggression appears when emotions are not well controlled. Online gaming also has negative impacts on health and academic performance when excessive, but it also provides benefits in expanding friendships and improving communication skills. The writer suggests that parents and teachers guide students in managing their gaming time and supervise the use of online games to ensure positive outcomes.
