KORELASI INTENSITAS DAN DURASI PAPARAN BISING DENGAN GANGGUAN PENDENGARAN DAN KESEIMBANGAN TUBUH PADA KARYAWAN PT PUPUK SRIWIDJAJA PALEMBANG

Background: Industrial noise exposure is a major occupational risk factor associated with noise-induced hearing loss (NIHL) and vestibular dysfunction. Continuous exposure to sound levels exceeding 85 dB is known to impair auditory and balance function. This study aimed to examine the correlation between noise intensity and duration of exposure with hearing impairment and balance impairment among workers at PT Pupuk Sriwidjaja Palembang, and to further analyze contributing factors using logistic regression. Methods: A cross-sectional analytical study was conducted involving 35 workers selected via proportional purposive sampling. Environmental noise levels were measured across work areas. Hearing function was evaluated using pure-tone audiometry, tympanometry, and otoacoustic emission (OAE) tests. Balance function was assessed through the Head Impulse Test, Romberg Test, Tandem Walking Test, and Fukuda Stepping Test. Data analysis included Spearman correlation and Chi-Square tests, followed by binary logistic regression to identify potential predictors of hearing and balance impairment. Results: The mean workplace noise level was 90.61 ± 5.88 dB (range: 85.3–99.1 dB). Hearing impairment occurred in 42.9% of workers, balance disturbances in 77.1%, and combined disorders in 45.7%. No significant correlation was found between noise intensity or cumulative exposure duration and hearing loss (p > 0.05) or balance disturbances (p > 0.05). Conclusion: Hearing impairment was found in 42.9% of workers and balance disorders in 77.1%. Noise exposure ranged from 85 to 99 dB. There was no association between noise intensity or cumulative exposure duration and hearing or balance impairment. Keywords: noise exposure, hearing impairment, balance impairment
