PERAN UN WOMEN DALAM MENANGANI KASUS FEMICIDE DI KENYA TAHUN 2024-2025

Femicide, as the most extreme form of gender-based violence, remains a serious issue in Kenya, particularly during the 2024–2025 period. The high incidence of killings of women has prompted the involvement of various actors, including international organizations, in efforts to prevent and address this phenomenon. This study aims to analyze the role of UN Women in addressing femicide cases in Kenya during the period 2024–2025. This research employs a qualitative approach using a literature study method based on official reports from international organizations, policy documents, and relevant academic publications. The analytical framework of this research applies the theory of international organizations proposed by Clive Archer, which categorizes the roles of international organizations as instruments, arenas, and actors. The findings show that UN Women performs these three roles in efforts to address femicide in Kenya. As an instrument, UN Women supports the implementation of various policies and programs related to gender equality and the protection of women. As an arena, UN Women provides a platform for coordination and dialogue among various actors, including the government, United Nations agencies, civil society organizations, and development partners to discuss gender-based violence issues. As an actor, UN Women directly implements several initiatives such as women's economic empowerment programs, capacity building for law enforcement officers, and the strengthening of coordination mechanisms within the United Nations system in Kenya. This study contributes to the field of international relations by demonstrating how International Organizations Theory can be applied to understand the dynamics of international organizations’ roles in addressing femicide, particularly in developing countries.
