KEBERLANJUTAN USAHATANI KARET DITINJAU BERDASARKAN ASPEK EKONOMI DI KECAMATAN JAYALOKA KABUPATEN MUSI RAWAS
Rubber is one of Indonesia’s major plantation commodities that plays a vital role in supporting the national economy and the livelihoods of rural communities; however, despite high production levels, the sustainability of rubber farming—particularly in terms of efficiency and farmer income—remains uncertain. This study aims to (1) analyze economic and technical efficiency to assess the sustainability of rubber farming in Jayaloka Subdistrict, Musi Rawas Regency; (2) analyze income to assess the sustainability of rubber farming; and (3) identify factors influencing farmers’ income in Jayaloka Subdistrict, Musi Rawas Regency. This study employed a survey method involving 60 rubber farmers selected using simple random sampling.The data were analyzed using Data Envelopment Analysis (DEA) with Variable Returns to Scale (VRS) and an input-oriented approach to measure technical, economic, and allocative efficiency, supplemented by income analysis and multiple linear regression. The results of the study show that the average technical efficiency is 0.758, economic efficiency is 0.602, and allocative efficiency is 0.670, indicating that rubber farming is not yet efficient and not fully sustainable. Farmers’ average income was Rp 16,185,957 per hectare per year, which remains below the Decent Living Standard (KHL), indicating that rubber farming is not sustainable from an income perspective. Furthermore, regression analysis shows that land area and labor costs have a positive and significant effect on rubber farmers’ income, whereas farming experience, tree age, and costs do not have a significant effect. In conclusion, rubber plantations in the study area are not yet sustainable in terms of either efficiency or income; therefore, improvements in the efficiency of resource allocation and income are necessary to support the long-term sustainability of rubber farming.
