MOTIF #KABURAJADULU PADA MAHASISWA SOSIOLOGI UNIVERSITAS SRIWIJAYA KAMPUS INDRALAYA

Pasaribu, Frenly Ferzon Oktora Pardamean - Personal Name;

This research examines the digital phenomenon #KaburAjaDulu to describe the underlying motives among Sociology students at Universitas Sriwijaya, Indralaya Campus, Specifically, it explores the motivations driving their engagement in this trend, which portrays the allure of superior living, employment, and educational opportunities abroad among Indonesia’s younger generation. Employing a qualitative approach grounded in Alfred Schutz’s phenomenological framework, the research dissects two core motive types: the "because-of motive," rooted in past experiences and understandings, and the "in-order-to motive," oriented toward future aspirations. The findings reveal that the students' "because-of motives" are driven by both external and internal factors, including collective disappointment, academic pressures, and socio-economic instability in Indonesia, which foster a sense of burnout and anxiety regarding the future. Meanwhile, the "in-order-to motives" behind this trend serve as a critique of stakeholders, a means to build collective social awareness, and a call for the reconstruction of government and educational policies to better prioritize the well-being of the public and students. In essence, the study portrays #KaburAjaDulu as a form of symbolic resistance, systemic critique, and expressive outlet against oppressive structures and conditions. It positions this phenomenon not merely as a fleeting digital trend but as a catalyst for policy innovation, offering valuable insights for educational institutions and policymakers to address underlying grievances and promote sustainable reforms.
