STIGMA MASYARAKAT PADA KELUARGA DENGAN LANSIA YANG DIASUH OLEH CAREGIVER DI KELURAHAN 9 ILIR KOTA PALEMBANG
his study aims to analyze the forms and expressions of social stigma toward families with elderly members cared for by caregivers in Kelurahan 9 Ilir, Palembang City. This study is analyzed using stigma theory proposed by Erving Goffman. The research uses a qualitative approach with a descriptive method. Data collection techniques in this study include in-depth interviews, observation, and documentation. The results show that the forms of stigma found include moral judgments in the form of assumptions that families are less responsible and less devoted in caring for their elderly parents, gossip that develops in community conversations, negative stereotypes such as the assumption that families prioritize work or economic matters, as well as social exclusion indicated by distance in daily social interactions. These stigmas are expressed in various forms, namely verbally through direct conversations in the community, nonverbally through physical reactions, facial expressions, and body language, and symbolically through social actions and different treatment toward families. This study shows that social stigma toward families with elderly members cared for by caregivers is still influenced by strong social values and norms regarding children's obligations to care for their parents.
