PENGOLAHAN TANAH DENGAN MESIN BULLRIPPER PADA BERBAGAI POLA PENGOLAHAN TANAH DI HUTAN TANAM INDUSTRI PT. MUSI HUTAN PERSADA
Land preparation is a critical stage in industrial plantation forest management because it directly affects plant establishment and operational efficiency. One of the heavy equipment commonly used for primary tillage in industrial plantation forests is the bullripper, a bulldozer equipped with a ripper designed to break compacted soil layers. The performance of a bullripper is strongly influenced by the tillage pattern applied, particularly in relation to time losses caused by turning, stoppage, and track slip. This study aimed to evaluate the performance of a bullripper under different tillage patterns and to determine the most efficient pattern in the industrial plantation forest area of PT Musi Hutan Persada, South Sumatra. The study was conducted on Eucalyptus pellita plantation land using three tillage patterns, namely back-and-forth, center, and spiral patterns, with three replications for each treatment. Observed parameters included operating time, time losses due to turning, stoppage, and slip, as well as performance indicators such as tillage efficiency, theoretical field capacity, effective field capacity, and field efficiency. Data were presented in tables and graphs. The results indicated that tillage pattern significantly affected bullripper performance. The center pattern produced the highest tillage efficiency at 57.87%, followed by the spiral pattern at 55.05%, while the back-and-forth pattern showed the lowest efficiency at 19.97% due to excessive time loss during turning maneuvers. Although theoretical field capacity was relatively similar among treatments, the highest effective field capacity and field efficiency were obtained using the center pattern. Therefore, the center tillage pattern is considered the most efficient and is recommended for land preparation activities using a bullripper in the industrial plantation forest of PT Musi Hutan Persada.
