PENGARUH EKSTRAK SEREH WANGI (Cymbopogon nardus ) TERHADAP PERKEMBANGAN PENYAKIT LAYU DAN BERCAK DAUN PADA TANAMAN CABAI MERAH KERITING (Capsicum annuum L.)

Curly red chili (Capsicum annuum L.) is an important horticultural commodity in Indonesia, yet its production is often constrained by various diseases, particularly wilt and leaf spot. Wilt disease, caused by Fusarium sp. and Phytophthora sp., disrupts the root system and vascular tissues, while leaf spot caused by Cercospora capsici damages leaf surfaces and reduces photosynthetic capacity. Alternative plant based disease control methods are needed to reduce dependence on synthetic fungicides. Citronella grass (Cymbopogon nardus ) contains bioactive compounds such as citronellal and geraniol, which are believed to have antifungal properties and the potential to suppress pathogen development. This study aimed to identify the causal pathogens of the diseases and to evaluate the effect of different concentrations of citronella (Cymbopogon nardus ) extract on the development of wilt and leaf spot diseases. The methods employed included symptom observation, laboratory isolation and identification of pathogens, and experimental treatments using various concentrations of citronella extract. The observed parameters included disease intensity and incidence, as well as the relationship between disease severity and plant growth parameters (plant height, stem diameter, number of leaves) and yield. The results showed that wilt disease was caused by Fusarium sp. and Phytophthora sp., while leaf spot disease was caused by Cercospora capsici. Citronella extract treatments exhibited variable effectiveness; however, treatment P3 at a concentration range of 15–25% showed the most optimal result in suppressing wilt disease intensity, approaching the effectiveness of fungicide control. In contrast, its effectiveness against leaf spot disease was not consistent. Regression analysis indicated that wilt disease had a greater influence on vegetative growth compared to leaf spot disease. Overall, citronella extract has potential as an alternative control method for chili plant diseases, particularly for wilt disease.
