DESAIN DAN IMPLEMENTASI MAGNETICALLY GEARED GENERATOR PADA TURBIN ANGIN SAVONIUS PUTARAN RENDAH
The Savonius wind turbine is well suited for the low wind speed conditions commonly found in Indonesia (2–6 m/s). However, its relatively low rotational speed limits the output voltage of permanent magnet generators operating in a direct-drive configuration. This study aims to design and implement a magnetically geared generator that integrates a coaxial magnetic gear (18 primary magnets, 6 secondary magnets, and 12 ferromagnetic modulators with a theoretical gear ratio of 3:1) and a single-phase permanent magnet generator into a compact unit with an outer diameter of 15 cm. Experimental testing was conducted using a blower at wind speeds ranging from 2 to 6 m/s under resistive loads of 5 W and 10 W. The experimental results show that the proposed system successfully increased the generator rotational speed, achieving an actual gear ratio ranging from 3.20 to 3.43 under a 5 W load and from 2.95 to 3.47 under a 10 W load. The generated DC output voltage ranged from 3.42 to 12.05 V, while the maximum output power reached 1.367 W at a wind speed of 6 m/s with a 10 W load. These results indicate that the integration of a magnetic gear with a permanent magnet generator can effectively increase generator rotational speed and produce usable electrical output under the low-speed operating conditions of a Savonius wind turbine.
