KANDUNGAN MIKROPLASTIK DAN KADAR LOGAM BERAT (Pb DAN Cd) PADA IKAN LAMPAM (Barbonymus schwanenfeldii) DI SUNGAI KABUPATEN MUARA ENIM
Microplastic pollution in aquatic environments is increasing due to plastic use that is not balanced by proper waste management, and this poses a risk of introducing heavy metals into aquatic organisms. This study aims to analyze the abundance and characterize the shape, color, and polymer type of microplastics in the gills and digestive tracts of lampam fish (Barbonymus schwanenfeldii), determine the levels of Pb and Cd in fish flesh, and analyze the relationship between microplastic abundance and heavy metal content. Fish samples were collected from the Lematang River and the Enim River in Muara Enim Regency. Microplastics were identified using a microscope and ATR-FTIR, while heavy metal concentrations were analyzed using AAS. Statistical analysis employed the Shapiro–Wilk test, Spearman’s correlation, and the Wilcoxon Signed-Rank test. The results showed higher microplastic abundance in the Enim River compared to the Lematang River, particularly in the gills. Microplastics were dominated by fiber and fragment forms. The identified polymers were dominated by nylon and nitrile in the Lematang River, whereas in the Enim River, they were dominated by ethylene vinyl acetate polymers, with additional nylon, nitrile, and polypropylene. Lead (Pb) levels in Enim River fish flesh exceeded the SNI 7387:2009 threshold, while cadmium (Cd) levels were below the quality standard limit. A very strong positive correlation was found between microplastic abundance and Pb levels (ρ = 0.927) as well as Cd levels (ρ = 0.903), indicating a link between microplastic exposure and heavy metal accumulation.
