ANALISIS KARAKTERISTIK MEMBRAN BERBAHAN POLYETHERSULFONE DENGAN VARIAN CNT SEBAGAI ADITIF UNTUK PENYARINGAN AIR
Water is an essential need whose availability and quality continue to face challenges, so effective and sustainable water treatment technology is needed. This study aims to develop a Polyethersulfone (PES)-based water filtration membrane with the addition of Carbon Nanotubes (CNTs) to improve filtration performance and membrane mechanical properties. The membrane was made using N-Methyl-2-Pyrrolidone (NMP) solvent through a phase inversion method combined with a 15 kV electric field, with variations in CNT concentrations of 0.5%, 1%, and 1.5% in a 30% PES composition. Characterization was carried out using a Scanning Electron Microscope (SEM), Clean Water Permeability (CWP), and tensile tests. The results showed that the addition of CNTs resulted in a more homogeneous pore structure, increased water permeability, and improved the mechanical strength of the membrane. The highest tensile strength value was obtained at 1.5% CNT variation of ±10.4 MPa, while the permeability increased with increasing operating pressure. Overall, the combination of CNT and electric field methods has been proven to improve the quality of PES membranes, thus having the potential to be developed as an efficient and sustainable water filtration material.
