HUBUNGAN ANTARA TINGKAT STRES AKADEMIK DENGAN KEJADIAN GASTRITIS PADA MAHASISWA KEDOKTERAN GIGI UNIVERSITAS SRIWIJAYA
Background: Gastritis cases in South Sumatra Province rank first among the top 10 causes of hospitalization in the province. One of the common causes of gastritis is psychological stress. Based on previous studies, dental students have higher stress levels compared to students in other health-related fields. Objective: To assess the relationship between academic stress levels and the incidence of gastritis among dental students at Sriwijaya University. Methods: This study employed an observational analytical design with a cross-sectional approach. The sampling technique used proportionate stratified sampling, with a sample size of 150 dental students at Sriwijaya University from the 2022–2025 cohorts. Bivariate analysis was performed using the chi-square test, and multivariate analysis was conducted using logistic regression. Results: The majority of respondents did not have gastritis (65.3%). The level of academic stress experienced by respondents was most commonly in the moderate stress category (76.7%). There was an association between academic stress levels and the incidence of gastritis among dental students at Sriwijaya University after adjusting for confounding variables. Dental students in the high academic stress category (p=0.026) showed a greater risk of developing gastritis compared to those in the low academic stress category (OR=8.560). Recommendations: Dental students are encouraged to provide mental health counselling through the BEM, Aku Mau Cerita (BAMCI) program and to voice their concerns through the KG Mendengar program.
