EFEKTIVITAS POLYVINYL ALCOHOL NASAL PACKING PADA PASIEN PASCA SEPTOPLASTI ENDOSKOPIK DI RS MOHAMMAD HOESIN PALEMBANG
Background: Septal deviation is a nasal structural abnormality that requires endoscopic septoplasty to correct respiratory obstruction. This procedure requires proper postoperative management to reduce pain, control bleeding, and minimize complications through trans-septal suturing techniques and nasal packing methods. This study aims to analyze the effectiveness of Polyvinyl Alcohol (PVA) nasal packing on pain and complications in patients following endoscopic septoplasty. Methods: A quasi-experimental study was undertaken at Mohammad Hoesin Hospital Palembang from September to December 2025. Post-endoscopic septoplasty clinical findings including pain levels based on the Visual Analog Scale (VAS) score, postoperative bleeding, and postoperative complications (hematoma, synechiae, and septal perforation) were assessed via postoperative telenasoendoscopy. Data were compared between groups with and without PVA nasal packing using the Mann-Whitney and Fisher’s Exact tests, processed with SPSS version 26.0. Results: The study found a significant difference in VAS score between the two groups (p = 0.007). However, there were no significant differences regarding bleeding complications (p = 1.000) and synechiae (p = 1.000) between the two groups. Conclusion : Polyvinyl Alcohol (PVA) nasal packing is not effective to diminish VAS score and complications in patients following endoscopic septoplasty.
