HUBUNGAN FAKTOR RISIKO DENGAN KEADAAN AKHIR PENDERITA DIFTERI DI INDONESIA TAHUN 2022 - 2024
Diphtheria is a communicable disease that contributes to morbidity and mortality in both children and adults. In Indonesia, the disease has disseminated across nearly all provinces, with 2,439 reported cases during the 2022–2024 period. In 2024, the Case Fatality Rate (CFR) for diphtheria in Indonesia was recorded at 4.5%. This study aims to delineate the epidemiological profile of diphtheria in Indonesia from 2022 to 2024 based on case distribution and clinical presentation, as well as to analyze the risk factors associated with the clinical outcomes of diphtheria patients. This research employed a cross-sectional study design utilizing secondary data from the Ministry of Health of the Republic of Indonesia, with a total sample size of 892. Data analysis was conducted using the chi-square test, simple logistic regression, and multiple logistic regression (prediction model). Bivariate analysis results (p < 0.05) indicated that age, immunization history, symptoms of bullneck or stridor, symptom severity, specimen culture results, Anti-Diphtheria Serum (ADS) administration, and close contact were variables significantly associated with patient outcomes. Multivariate analysis revealed that the most dominant risk factor associated with diphtheria outcomes was the presence of bullneck or stridor symptoms, with an Odds Ratio (OR) of 4.55 (95% CI: 2.46–8.42; p < 0.001). The study concludes that clinical symptoms, specifically bullneck or stridor, constitute the risk factor with the strongest correlation to mortality among diphtheria patients
