PENILAIAN SPASIAL PADA PERUBAHAN TUTUPAN LAHAN DENGAN KEMAMPUAN RETENSI AIR SEBAGAI EVALUASI DAYA DUKUNG LAHAN DI SEMPADAN SUNGAI WAY ILAHAN, KABUPATEN TANGGAMUS, PROVINSI LAMPUNG
This study is motivated by land cover changes in the riparian zone of the Way Ilahan River, Tanggamus Regency, which potentially reduce land carrying capacity, particularly in terms of soil water retention. The objective of this research is to assess soil water retention based on pF values and to analyze spatial changes in NDMI, NDWI, and SAVI indices as indicators of moisture conditions and vegetation density. The method employed is a quantitative descriptive approach combining Sentinel-2A imagery analysis for the years 2020, 2023, and 2025 with field surveys through soil sampling at 8 sections, followed by laboratory analysis (pF 2.54), and validation using the Root Mean Square Error (RMSE) with a value of 0.506. The results indicate that rainfall exhibits fluctuating seasonal patterns that influence water availability. Soil water retention values range from 14% to 30%, predominantly in the moderate category (18–26%), where clay-textured soils show higher retention compared to sandy soils. Spatial analysis reveals dynamic changes in moisture and vegetation, where variations in NDWI and NDMI reflect fluctuations in land wetness, while SAVI indicates variations in vegetation density due to land use changes. Overall, land cover changes affect the soil’s ability to retain water and environmental stability. Therefore, sustainable riparian management based on vegetation conservation and appropriate land use is necessary to maintain hydrological balance and land carrying capacity.
