This research aims to cmalyze effectiveness of free Jloating exchange rate system applying in protecling Indonesia's foreign exchange reserve position during the year 1998-2008. Based on the result, it indicates that tendency of depression of rupiah toward USS during the applying period of free floating exchange rate system can improve International competitiveness in raising export which is higher than import. Based on the result also seen that Indonesia's foreign exchange reserve position during research period showing protected position which can be seen on the ratio sufficiency of foreign exchange reserve in fulfilling import reguirement for at least three months.
