THE CORRELATION BETWEEN STUDENTS’ PERCEPTION OF THE HOTS CONCEPT AND THEIR ABILITY TO ANSWER HOTS TYPE QUESTIONS IN ENGLISH IN SMA NEGERI 6 PALEMBANG

This study aimed to investigate: (1) student’s perception of the HOTS concept in SMA Negeri 6 Palembang academic year 2019/2020, (2) students’ ability to answer HOTS type question in English in SMA Negeri 6 Palembang academic year 2019/2020, (3) whether or not there was a significant correlation between students’ perception of the HOTS concept and their ability to answer HOTS type question in English in SMA Negeri 6 Palembang academic year 2019/2020. The sample of this study was 99 students of SMA Negeri 6 Palembang academic year 2019/2020. The data were collected by using a questionnaire of students’ perception of HOTS concept and English HOTS-type questions. The data were analyzed by using the Kolmogorov Smirnov normality test and Pearson Product Moment Correlation in SPSS version 26. The result showed that students’ perception is in low (36.4%) and moderate (63.6%) categories. The students’ ability to answer HOTS type question were categorized into the very good category (27.3%), good category (45.5%), moderate category (25%), and failed category (2%). The students’ perception of the HOTS concept was not significantly correlated to their ability to answer HOTS type questions with the p- value 0.980 and r-obtained 0.003.
